2013 Laurel Glen Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
For the 3rd consecutive year, Wine & Spirits Magazine has chosen our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon as one of the 'Year's Best Cabernets' from literally thousands of wines tasted.
The 2013 Laurel Glen Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful illustration of the years of work we’ve put into elevating practices in the vineyard and winery. A mild winter led to an early bud break in which the vines did not set a big crop. Spring and summer weather were just right: not too hot, not too cold. Even though harvest was early, because of the early bud break, there was plenty of time for great flavor development. Technically 2013 was a drought year. The rain we did get, though, came at just the right times and thus its possible the vines never realized there was a drought. We did water one block of the vineyard once. It was the 1st time we had irrigated any part of the vineyard since 2010. Picking began about ten days earlier than in 2012, on September 25th. Yields were lighter than average and similar to 2012, about 2.4 tons per acre. The quality of the fruit was exceptional. Justly lauded, the 2013 vintage yielded grapes with intense concentration and beautiful aromatics. We bottled 1,030 9L cases in July 2015.
“Give it a day of air, and its savory flavors explode, saturating the senses with smoky, woodsy spice that feels connected to the rocky volcanic soil and forests of Sonoma Mountain rather than oak barrels. It's massive yet refreshing. . .” - 94 points - Luke Sykora for Wine & Spirits Magazine
Editor's Choice: ". . . lovely in currant, cranberry and a sanguine earthiness. The acidity is weaved in throughout and entirely supportive, uplifting the fruit to greater heights of freshness and focus." - 94 points - Virginie Boone for Wine Enthusiast Magazine
